Moving your child out of a bed!

There is no hard and fast rule to move your child from their much loved cot to a bed. We find that children start to move from 18 months to around 3 years old.
Feeling that your child has outgrown the cot is the main reason for switching them to a bed. But the addition of another baby can be a great time to move them over. But it’s a good idea to allow 1 ½ – 2 months before they are due to give enough transition time. Even if you choose to have your new arrival in a bassinette, it will make the transition much easier.
You may also choose to move your child out of their cot when they start climbing out or jumping out. This might also be the right time for a move. We see more and more children in our store with broken arms and fingers from falls from the cot. This also gives them freedom to move around the bed freely.
Some children will take the change easily, some may not. Novelties kids beds are a great way to get them into their bed. We have Cars beds, Fire Engine, Princess Carriage, Helicopter and Train beds. Most of them can also be fitted with a bed guard to prevent falls. Our trundle beds can also be great if your child is sick and you would like to lie with them until they fall asleep.
If you find that you have made the switch prematurely. Bring the cot back into the room. Try to make sure it’s a good change or a backwards step or a type of punishment.
Your child should take the change a big step in their life and it will also be a milestone for you to either move them from their cot or from the middle of your bed.
